TERM II

Is my food?

Through MDEF, I've explored and experimented with the practice of co-creating, using food as a tool and a medium. The main motive being able to cross paths between design and technology, to bridge social constructs and political views. As diverse the group of students in our class gets, the more diverse the opinions get around subjects like ethics, politics and emotions. In my belief, the conversations around food can ease such delicate conversations. One's choices can be influenced by one's identity in many societies, and this activity aimed to explore just that.

This activity was conducted at the end of term III, where plates were turned into survey sheets. The table was served with an array of forms with bite-sized portions of food placed at the centre of each. The surveyee was supposed to pick a plate/form, take the bite and then tick mark the answers to 4 yes and no questions. This activity mainly focused on understanding the influence of identity in food practices among individuals from multicultural backgrounds such as our class.
